The Russian-Islamic
Alliance
Ezekiel 38-39 prophesies that, in the last days, an alliance of many
nations would attack Israel. The names used were ancient names of
modern day countries. The following are the areas listed in the
Bible that would attack and in parenthesis are what are believed to
be the corresponding modern day countries. 1
-
Magog (Russia and Islamic Central Asia)
-
Meshech (Moscow)
-
Tubal (Siberia)
-
Persia (Iran)
-
Ethiopia (Ethiopia, Eritrea and Sudan)
-
Put (Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria)
-
Gomer (Germany and Austria) and
-
Beth-togarmah (Turkey and/or Armenia)
Interestingly enough, most of these nations are Islamic countries.
Iran, Libya, and Sudan are three of Israel’s most ardent opponents.
Notice that Syria, another one of Israel’s most ardent opponents, is
not mentioned. Isaiah 17 prophesies that Damascus, the capital of
Syria, will be destroyed. Perhaps that explains its conspicuous
absence from the above list. Iraq, Egypt and Jordan, countries that
fought Israel in the Arab-Israeli War, the Six-Day War, and the Yom
Kippur War, are also not mentioned. Perhaps the prophecy took into
account that Iraq would no longer be a major threat to Israel after
the conflict between the U.S. and Iraq. Likewise, the prophecy may
have taken into account that Egypt and Jordan would both sign peace
treaties with Israel in 1979 and 1994, respectively.

The
alliance that Ezekiel 38-39 prophesied has formed or is forming.
Russia is helping Iran build a nuclear reactor
4 and has also supplied Iran with weapons.
5 Moreover, Russia has stated that it intends
to strengthen relations with Islamic countries.
6
Ezekiel prophesies that Israel, although abandoned by its allies,
would defeat these nations because God would come to its rescue.
